MELBOURNE, January 18, 2012 (AFP) - Australian teenager Bernard Tomic was again forced to dig deep as he battled back from a set down to reach the third round of the Australian Open with victory over America's Sam Querrey Wednesday.
The 19-year-old eliminated 95th-ranked Querrey, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7/3), 6-3 in 2hr 13min on Rod Laver Arena and will now play Ukraine's 13th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov in the third round on Friday.
Tomic, the highest ranked Australian men's player, at 38, created national headlines when he sensationally fought back from two sets down to knock out Spanish 22nd seed Fernando Verdasco in five sets in Monday's opening round.
