Council has adopted a new Regional Events Strategy aimed at boosting tourism and showcasing the Scenic Rim.
The strategy will be underpinned by a $50,000 grants program to support existing major events and help others get off the ground.
Key objectives of the strategy include supporting existing major events on the local calendar which have the potential to increase visitor numbers and attract participants from outside the region, and to attract new events with the same potential.
Another significant focus is the provision of support to events that showcase the region’s industries and assets, including food, wine, art, culture, crafts and environment.
“There was widespread community and business support for Council taking a greater leadership role in developing the region’s events industry,” Corporate and Community Services Committee chair Cr Nigel Waistell said.
“The Regional Events Strategy provides the framework for Council to move forward and help deliver and attract events which will showcase our region and support our economy.”
