One word to describe Funkoars’ latest album? Classic.
This album gave me everything I could want from one of Australia’s best.
These guys have once again produced a quality collection that with out a doubt screams classic Funkoar character.
Known for their sharp and clever lyrics and unique sound, these professional partiers continue to surprise me.
Going from their previous releases Greatest Hits, The Hangover and single Where Am I? released from The Quickening, it seems there’s no slowing these guys.
The overall feel of The Quickening is much the same to their past releases, but I got a sense of maturity from this album that takes it one step further from their past material. This compilation surpassed funny content and crazy lyrics and set itself as a true reflection of the kind of skill our hip hop artists are famous for.
The top tracks had to be The Quickening, Where I am and Body Count. The sounds were edgy and unique, and I think these were the tracks that set this album apart. The boys team up with Hilltop Hoods on Body Count and I have to say the blend just exuded charisma.
The track had a great clean sound and was a whole lot of fun. The title track The Quickening was another favourite, which had a really unique sound and fantastic lyrics.
Other guest appearances on the album included DJ Ad-Fu, K21 and Vents who lend their talent to tracks including The Assassination (Vents), WSDL? (DJ Ad-Fu) and I Got This (K21). The only real downfall of the album was the opening track Fumes that Spell Doom that didn’t really need to be there.
Fortunately, the song to follow The Quickening makes up for the slow to start opening.
To sum up, this album surpassed their previous albums - no easy feat. I will say it again, this album was cleverly crafted and has a unique sound - most definitely represents classic Funkoars.
